St. Kitts Carnival
The end of the year culminates in the St. Kitts & Nevis National Carnival, the biggest event of the year, (also known as Sugar Mas). In the run up to Christmas and New Year, the streets erupt in a series of colorful parades, processions, and street performances. Clowns, Moko-Jumbies dancing on stilts, and troupes from all over the island entertain the crowds with their frenzied dancing to the infectious beat of soca and calypso music, while Carnival Queen and Talented Teen contestants show off dazzling costumes, months in the making.
Don’t miss J’ouvert, when costumed dancers fill the streets of Basseterre on Boxing Day, as well as the National Carnival Queen Pageant and the Senior Calypso Show.
The finale of the month and a half long celebrations is the traditional Grand Parade on January 1st.
